TPT Statement about “Bring Her Home” documentary goal and focus

March 21, 2022

TPT’s goal with the film “Bring Her Home” is to raise awareness on a critical human rights issue so our communities can find solutions and healing. This film focuses on the issue of murdered and missing Indigenous women by telling the story of three women who have been impacted, how they have survived, and the hope and healing they have brought to others. These realities have remained hidden for far too many years, and it is our deepest hope that our film will shine a light on this issue.

TPT is aware there may be concerns around the film “Bring Her Home” omitting the issue of missing and murdered native (Indigenous) men. We are aware of issues around murdered and missing native men, which is indeed part of a larger trend in the native community; however, the intention of our documentary is to raise awareness around the issue of murdered and missing Indigenous women in this country, and we choose to focus on the women’s plight with this film.

In our country, native women make up less than 1% of the U.S. population while facing murder rates that are more than 10 times the national average. Similarly, Indigenous women and girls comprise 1% of Minnesota’s population but make up for about 15% of the state’s female missing persons cases, according to a taskforce coordinated by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety and unanimously supported by the bipartisan Minnesota Legislature.
