St. Paul, MN (July 17, 2023) – Caregiving can be lonely. A new resource from Next Avenue is committed to helping caregivers find support.
Founded in 2012, Next Avenue is a national online platform produced by Twin Cities PBS (TPT) dedicated to covering the issues that matter most as we age. Next Avenue has established itself as a leader in exploring aspects of aging and caregiving that often are not openly discussed, such as caregiving in blended families and caregiving when mental illness or substance abuse is involved. In July, Next Avenue launched Caregiving in America: The 24/7 Caregiver, a space for those engaged in all forms of caregiving.
“Next Avenue has been a platform for readers to engage in essential conversations around aging and readers have shared how important they have found our resources for caregivers,” explains Julie Pfitzinger, Managing Editor of Next Avenue. “The 24/7 Caregiver solidifies Next Avenue’s commitment to serve all caregivers with information and support.”
Funded in part by The John A. Hartford Foundation, The 24/7 Caregiver includes a monthly newsletter, articles highlighting caregiving experiences, and the opportunity to receive advice from caregiving expert Jason Resendez in a monthly “Ask the Expert” column. The column will be informed by additional experts, highlight solutions, and link to useful caregiving resources.
Resendez is the President and CEO of the National Alliance for Caregiving, where he leads research, policy, and innovation initiatives to build health, wealth, and equity for America’s 53 million family caregivers. Jason is a nationally recognized expert on family care, aging, and the science of inclusion in research. In 2020, he was named one of America’s top Influencers in Aging by Next Avenue alongside others including Michael J. Fox and Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy.
