SAINT PAUL, MN (December 6, 2022) — Next Avenue, the national news and community destination for older adults that is part of the PBS system, today revealed its 2022 “Influencers in Aging.”

Next Avenue was launched in 2012, with the mission to meet the needs and unleash the potential of older Americans through the power of media. Since 2012, the platform has served over 80 million people through its content and partnerships.

The 2022 “Influencers in Aging” list recognizes remarkable people bringing solutions, innovation, inspiration, and big thinking to the aging space.

“This year’s influencers were chosen because they are changing the aging landscape,” says Julie Pfitzinger, Next Avenue’s Managing Editor. “They are pushing for new policies, providing new representation, and giving access to information that is changing what it means to age and live an older life. They are rewriting the script of aging.”

The influencers are:

Ramsey Alwin (Arlington, VA): President and CEO of the National Council on Aging, Alwin is a national thought leader and policy advocate leading a nationwide movement to ensure equitable aging for every American. She designed new measures of economic security for older Americans and is changing the way people think about adult poverty.

Robin Berzin, MD (New York, NY): Holistic medicine practitioner and founder of Parsley Health, Berzin specializes in women’s health and helping her patients overcome chronic conditions, including menopause. “State Change,” Berzin’s recently published book, draws on new science to help readers attain a new baseline for energy, calm, and optimism.

Christopher Gardner, PhD (Stanford, CA): A leading nutritional researcher, Gardner is the Rehnborg Farquhar Professor of Medicine at the Stanford School of Medicine. He studies the relationship between diet and health, the best ways to motivate individuals to achieve healthier diets, and strategies for maximizing taste, health, and sustainability of food in institutionalized settings (such as in schools, worksites, and hospitals) to achieve healthier dietary behaviors.

Becca Levy, PhD (New Haven, CT): A leading expert on the psychology of successful aging, Levy is a Professor of Public Health and Psychology at Yale School of Public Health and Affiliated Faculty at the Yale Institute of Global Health. Her recently published book, “Breaking the Age Code,” presents techniques for improving age beliefs and reducing structural ageism for a more age-just society.

Frank Lipman, MD (New York City, NY): Functional medicine pioneer and sleep expert, Lipman is the Founder of the Eleven Wellness Center. He has spent his career helping people increase their health and age well. His books, “The New Rules to Aging Well” and “Better Sleep, Better You” (co-written with Neil Parikh), provide practical advice for a healthier life.

Andie MacDowell (California): Actor and model, MacDowell is an advocate for women aging authentically and has been a spokeswoman for L’Oréal for the past 35 years. She currently stars in “Maid” on Netflix and the upcoming Hallmark series “The Way Home.”

Rajean Moone, PhD (Minneapolis, MN): Dedicated to eliminating ageism and working on age-friendly initiatives that support the inclusion of older adults in society, Moone advocates for training and practices needed for caring for older LGBTQ adults.
