Twin Cities PBS Sunsets 'Rewire' Online Publication After 8 Years

'Rewire,' TPT’s young adult publication, to end following new strategic directions

August 6, 2021

Twin Cities PBS (TPT) has announced the closing of its online publication, Rewire.org, after an eight-year run as new priorities and content changes evolve. Rewire’s daily publishing and social accounts will end on Sept. 1, 2021, with one final article published on Aug. 31, 2021. After eight successful years and more than 2000 articles that have reached millions of young adults, the media landscape continues to change and TPT, as an innovative leader in public media, continues to adapt with it in developing new strategic directions.

Rewire launched in 2013 to engage Minnesota’s young adult demographic in public media and was relaunched in 2016 in an effort to reach younger generations at a national level. In addition to its daily digital publication, Rewire has been tapped to produce educational digital series for PBS Digital Studios, including America from Scratch and the Webby and Telly award-winning series, Sound Field.

The Rewire website will be maintained through the end of the year and content will have the opportunity to be licensed out to media organizations, employers, and institutions that are interested in content for the young adult demographic.

TPT is grateful for the incredible content and opportunities that were created throughout the lifetime of Rewire as well as its Board of Trustees, funders, TPT members and donors, Rewire fans, and the Rewire staff and many contributors for the opportunity to create, innovate, and learn how to engage with its young adult audience.
