The New Yorker called Tift Merritt, “…the bearer of a proud tradition of distaff country soul that reaches back to artists like Dusty Springfield and Bobbie Gentry. “The singer-songwriter’s 2002 debut album, Bramble Rose, put her on the Americana map. She further cemented her reputation two years later with her Grammy-nominated sophomore effort, Tambourine. In addition to critical and industry acclaim, Merritt counts her own musical heroes, including Emmylou Harris, among her admirers. An entertaining new hour-long special, TIFT MERRITT: STILL NOT HOME, captures the North Carolina native performing in front of a hometown audience. The show, shot in August 2013 at the North Carolina Museum of Art, showcases Merritt’s brand of Americana and roots music. The artist shares songs from her fifth album, 2012’s Traveling Alone, and selections from Tambourine (2004), Another Country (2008) and See You on the Moon (2010). Between songs, Merritt reflects on her life and career.
