Myron Johnson - Choreographer + Dancer

Educators' Guide

Writing/Essay/Journal
Myron Johnson’s dance company, Ballet of the Dolls, combines his passions: theater and dance. Because he came from a theater background, his art is about expressing something to an audience, not just to himself. He feels that “entertainment needs to be art and art needs to be entertaining.” Do you agree with this? Why or why not?

Activity
Myron Johnson recalls while studying with mime Marcel Marceau that on occasion a student would be asked to stand in the middle of the room doing nothing for an hour while everyone stared at him or her. Try standing in front of a small group for several minutes, doing nothing. How does this make you feel? Have a discussion about the exercise.
