Mary Griep speaks about the time it took to create these buildings, sometimes a hundred years or more. She says that her own work takes a very long time to create, but that she feels that she owes it to the buildings and the people who worked so long on building them. How patient are you? How long are you willing to work on a single project? How important is it to you to see the finished product of your hard work? How does Griep incorporate different types of media in her artwork? What can be advantageous about using mixed media? What might be a disadvantage?
Mary Griep has a unique way of showing space – she shows the inside and the outside of the buildings in her drawings at the same time. Try creating a drawing that shows either multiple sides of an object or the passage of time in a single image.
