Writing/Essay/Journal
Greg Gossel layers images from magazines, ads, comics and tabloids to create new pieces. His large murals show the history of their creation and leave room for the viewer to interpret what they mean.

Keep a journal for one day, tracking all of the advertisements you see during that day. Include as much info in your journal as you can, including the medium of each ad (radio, newspaper, billboard, etc.), the time you spent with each ad, how the ad made you feel, etc. At the end of your day, write a summary of how advertising affects you on the whole.

Activity
Make a collage in the same style as Greg. Layer photos, sketches, advertisements, paint, markers, typography and other images to create a complex, multi-dimensional image. Show your collage to classmates—what sort of response is elicited?
