Make friends, share stories, and join the conversation. Indie Lens Pop-Up is a neighborhood series that brings people together for film screenings and community-driven conversations.

Featuring documentaries seen on the PBS series Independent Lens, Indie Lens Pop-Up draws local residents, leaders, and organizations together to discuss what matters most, from newsworthy topics to family and relationships.

On March 12 we are screening The Providers.

Set against the backdrop of the physician shortage and opioid epidemic in rural America, The Providers follows three healthcare providers in northern New Mexico. They work at El Centro, a small group of safety-net clinics that offer care to all who walk through the doors, regardless of ability to pay. Amidst personal struggles that at times reflect those of their patients, the journeys of the providers unfold as they work to reach rural Americans who would otherwise be left out of the healthcare system. With intimate access, the documentary shows the transformative power of providers’ relationships with marginalized patients. Click here to learn more about Independent Lens.

Stay after the screening for a panel discussion and Q+A with Dr. Kurt Devine & Dr Heather Bell of CHI St. Gabriel’s Health and moderated by Dr. Jeff Schiff of the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
