Working on the railroadexplore the inner workings of the railroad industry and find out who gets the job done. This pbs eight documentary called ‘working on the railroad’ profiles the engineers, switchmen, dispatchers and track crews who drive the rail industry in duluth and superior. Three experienced producers and six skilled photographers capture the essence of railroading at the head of the lakes. We’ll ride the rails on a fast moving freight train, transfer taconite to ore docks in two harbors and duluth, and follow a veteran switchman working in the rail yard. We’ll track a coal shipment coming into superior, ride along on a ‘local’ run to hayward, and travel across the stunning grassy point drawbridge and the st. louis bay. Enjoy the pleasures of passenger trains in coaches pulled by a classic steam engine. Six major rail carriers give pbs eight remarkable access to some of their most scenic routes and most experienced workers. The result is sometimes grand, sometimes gritty, always impressive.
