Thousands of pounds of surplus medical supplies are thrown away annually in Minnesota.
When doctors and dentists open a package of surgical tools, they may only need one piece of the package. But in the U.S., the remaining tools must be thrown away. A group of Minnesotans have stepped in to help by collecting brand new medical supplies that would otherwise be discarded and shipping them to communities in need in Bolivia.
