Donald Lacourse says that people sometimes laugh at him for knowing as much as he does about the dance costumes of various regions of the world. But he says that like any geek he learns so much about it because he is passionate about it. What is something that you are passionate about and willing to spend time doing even if people laugh at you? Also, how could Lacourse’s art used to bring people together? How is the concept of scale addressed in this piece? Some of the artists don’t directly address scale, but it is still present in their work.

Lacourse hopes that people leave Ethnic Dance Theater enjoying the entertaining experience but also that they leave wanting to understand their own ethnic heritage. Do some research into the costumes of your own ethnic heritage. What did people wear? Were there different costumes for different occasions or events? Can you still see examples of these costumes in a museum or do they now exist just in pictures.
