Writing/Essay/Journal
Choreographer Carl Flink sees dance as being more about movement than about the traditional way people think of dance, with flowing skirts and pointe shoes. In his choreography he doesn’t look for specifically refined and crafted motion, but for powerful expressive movement. How aware are you of your own movements throughout the day? How do you express yourself physically to other people? How does Flink add something unique to his art? What emotions can be most easily expressed through choreography?
Activity
Flink is choreographing a dance piece for Black Label Movement based on an interrogation, a moment of torture. Choreograph your own piece by using movement and dance to express a moment of discomfort. What physical expressions can you use to get the viewer to understand an emotion?
