Happy birthday to the beloved “Sesame Street”! On Nov. 10, 1969, the first episode of “Sesame Street” aired on public television — CHANGING THE WORLD FOREVER. Well, at least we think so.

“Sesame Street” has had numerous guest appearances (so many, we’d need The Count’s help to keep track of them all) spanning across the board — from famous actors and musicians, to politicians and other public figures and celebrities of all kinds. Throughout its long run, the show has never failed to inspire young people to be their best selves, regardless of who was on the program. In honor of this celebratory day, we decided to pick a few of our favorite guest appearances in more recent history that we’ve found particularly memorable, inspiring and fun.

Help us celebrate by sharing your favorite “Sesame Street” guest star in the comments! Happy Birthday, “Sesame Street”!

Grover is hilariously adorable in this clip and Mrs. O is the best! Oh, and who doesn’t like breakfast?!

Bill Hader a grouch?! We get it though. We too hate it when a woodchuck wears our favorite hat. Wait, what?

Career advice and inspiration from our country’s first Latina Supreme Court justice, Sonia Sotomayor.

This appearance by none other than the incredible Maya Angelou has us smiling and saying all the “awws.” Oh, and Natasha = totes adorbs. (Nose boop).

In 1972, legendary vocalist Nina Simone sang “Young, Gifted and Black” on the steps of a building on Sesame Street while young children listened and sang along beside her. The words are just as powerful today as they were more than four decades ago. It’s where it’s at!
