Jim Denomie represents sensitive, historical issues in his vibrant paintings.
Jim Denomie is primarily a painter of native narratives and portraits, recognizable for their vibrant color palettes and representation of sensitive historical issues. His process was reinvigorated in 2005 when he challenged himself to create a painting a day and, in turn, unlocked a faster, more intuitive technique. Denomie was recognized with the 2012-2013 McKnight Artist Fellowship for Visual Arts and created the piece Oven of Creativity, seen here in progress, for the June 2013 fellowship exhibition at the MCAD Gallery.
