Gadu Doushin practices subbody butoh, an avant-garde Japanese performance art.
Gadu Doushin moved from his native Japan to study engineering at the University of Minnesota in the early 1990s. However his true passion, and what he ultimately ended up pursuing, was dance. After years studying South Indian classical dance with Ragamala Dance, Doushin began to study butoh, an avant-garde Japanese performance art developed in the late 1950s. Unlike western forms of dance that praise strength of the body, butoh celebrates weakness and vulnerability.
