David Bowen's technology-fueled installations
David Bowen’s technology-fueled installations examine the contrast between natural and mechanical systems. Bowen’s 2013 installation, Underwater, simulates the movement on a body of water’s surface. Utilizing an Xbox Kinect video game controller, Bowen collected 3-dimensional data points from the surface of Lake Superior, then fed that data to sophisticated motors called “servomotors,” which recreate the complex and subtle movements of the water in the gallery space at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.
