In April 1933, the Barrow gang holed up in Joplin, Missouri for a break from the road.
On April 13, 1933, the local authorities in Joplin, Missouri decided to investigate the Barrow gang’s hideout. John Harryman, a farmer moonlighting as a part-time peace officer, approached the house with Joplin police. They were armed only with pistols.
