Gordon and Ferdinand - Sir Topham Hatt welcomes Ferdinand to his railroad by letting him share Gordon's special. They will be taking the Lion of Sodor to the Summer House and Ferdinand will be Gordon's back engine, which Gordon isn't happy about. They pass workmen who cheer for Ferdinand (not for Gordon or the Lion of Sodor!). Gordon comes up with a plan to take the quiet tracks across the Fenland but he goes too fast and the Lion of Sodor falls into the river. Gordon realizes he was wrong to think he was grander than Ferdinand. Ferdinand helps Gordon to get the Lion of Sodor back and they take it to the Steam Works to get it gleaming again. Toby and Bash - Sir Topham Hatt gives Bash a reward for being a Really Useful Engine. His reward is to spend the day with Toby to pick up the children at Knapford Station. Then they heave and haul slate to Brendham Docks. They are tired and Bash needs a rest so Toby brings him to Arlesdale End. Bash thinks Arlesdale is beautiful and Toby lets him sleep there. Toby thinks that Bash would like a home of his own on Sodor and they set out to find the perfect home. They visit the Fenlands but Bash is scared of the ducks and go to Farmer McColl's field but the cows scare Bash. Toby realizes that Bash just wants his home to remain on Misty Island. Toby takes Bash to Misty Island and he is happily back with Dash and Ferdinand.
Kindness with Friends
Percy's New Friends - Percy wants to make friends with the wild animals on Sodor. When he approaches a squirrel, it runs away. He tries to make friends with a bird but it flies away. Percy doesn't understand why the animals keep running away from him. As Percy is thinking about this, Gordon rushes past and frightens him by going so fast and being so loud. Percy realizes that big things can scare little things, so Percy decides to approach the animals again, but this time he is very gentle and quiet. Soon the rabbit, the squirrel and the bird have hopped onto Percy's buffer. Percy takes his new friends to meet the other engines. Emily and Dash - Emily is given the special of looking after Dash and taking him to the Children's Steam Fair. Emily sees that Dash can make special tweeting noises with his whistle. Emily pushes Dash to show her how to make tweeting noises again and again. Dash warns Emily that he'll run out of fuel but she doesn't listen and Dash runs out of fuel. He gets stuck and can't move to go to the fair. Emily goes to the fair instead and tries to tweet again but everyone just thinks she is being funny. Emily realizes that she has been a silly engine and needs to help Dash. Emily makes everything better by getting fuel for Dash and bringing him to the fair. Emily laughs so hard when they get to the fair that she twitters and tweets.
James to the Rescue - James is asked to be the Sodor Search and Rescue Engine but is upset when Toby is asked to help him. James says that Sodor Rescue Engines are Steam Engines, not Steam Trams like Toby! They chuff off to rescue Gordon whose wheels have come off the track. James wants to help by pulling him forward, but Toby thinks they should get Rocky since Gordon is too heavy. James doesn't listen and tries to pull Gordon, and his driving wheels now come off the track. When James tries to push Gordon, the Fenland track cracks and Gordon falls! James then asks Toby to get Rocky for help. James says that Toby is the best Rescue Tram on the whole of Island of Sodor. Harry Hiro - Thomas tries to cheer Hiro up when he sees that he is sad because he misses his home. Thomas is sure that he can make Hiro smile and asks Charlie to tell him a joke, but Hiro doesn't laugh. Thomas brings Hiro to Misty Island and he enjoys the sounds of the birds. Thomas doesn't pay attention and takes him to race through the hollow tree tunnel. When Hiro wants to look at the sea, Thomas takes him on a tour of the hills of Sodor. Thomas realizes he needs to listen to Hiro and what he wants. They listen to the birds at the hollow tree tunnel and visit the Jobi Woods. The places they visit remind Hiro of home. Thomas has made Hiro happy.
Henry's Happy Coal - Henry is given a special of taking a very important visitor around Sodor. When Henry visits the Steam Works he is teased by 'Arry and Bert for needing to use special coal. Henry wants be like the rest of the Steamies and use normal coal instead of his special coal. When Henry tries to steam through Sodor using the normal coal, he breaks down. Henry realizes that he has been a silly engine. Sir Topham Hatt tells Henry that it is the special coal that makes Henry such a special engine. When 'Arry and Bert tease Henry again, he tells them that he is proud of being a special engine with special coal. Henry even helps 'Arry and Bert when they run out of diesel! Edward the Hero - Edward is given the special job of being the Rescue Engine at the Sodor Search and Rescue Center. Edward wants to be a hero if he is to help Harold at the Center. Edward thinks that heroes are strong, fast and stern so decides he must be strong, fast and stern too. He helps Charlie by being funny, helps Dowager Hatt by being kind, and helps Farmer McColl's dog by being gentle. Edward doesn't think he's a hero though because he hasn't shown he is fast, strong and stern. As Edward chuffs along the tracks he sees people cheering and waving to him and calling him a hero. Word has spread that Edward has been kind, funny and gentle. Sir Topham Hatt tells Edward that he is the biggest hero of all because he is Edward.
Helping Each Other
Stop that Bus! - Thomas feels bad that Bertie doesn't get to travel on the rails so he decides to take Bertie on a tour of Sodor by rail. Bertie rolls onto Thomas' flatbed and soon they're off on their adventure. Bertie loves the sights but he needs to go and collect Dowager Hatt and her friends. Thomas is having such a good time that he doesn't listen to Bertie. Chaos ensues as the flatbed rolls away from Thomas and Bertie is stuck on it in the middle of the Shake Shake Bridge. Thomas chuffs away fast to ask Harold to rescue Bertie. Thomas then collects Dowager and her friends and brings them to meet Bertie at the Shake Shake Bridge. Dowager and her friends jump into the back of Bertie and the flatbed is re-attached to Thomas and they race through the countryside. Spencer The Grand - It is a very foggy day on Sodor. All the engines are asked to stay at Tidmouth Sheds by Sir Topham Hatt. Spencer wants to get back to the Duke and Duchess' Summer House instead. Spencer can't find his way in the fog and arrives at Mavis' Quarry and Whiff's Waste Dump rather than at the Summer House. Just as Spencer thinks he has arrived at the Summer House, he realizes he is back at Tidmouth Sheds. Thomas and the engines are kind to him and he realizes he has been a silly engine. Now it is Spencer's turn to be kind and he goes to find Percy who is still lost in the fog. Spencer uses his whistle to find Percy and they return safely to Tidmouth Sheds.
Big Belle - Belle is very excited to learn that Toby also has a bell just like hers, and wants to go and be friends with him. Toby is a little intimidated when he sees how big and powerful Belle is. Belle decides that she wants Toby to do everything that she wants to do. They go to see Farmer Trotter's pigs but Belle spoils the fun by making mud with her water jet. Toby goes into another siding but Belle chases after him still wanting to be his friend. Next they go to Maithwaite Station and Belle rings her big loud bell but Toby reverses away. Belle realizes that if she wants to be Toby's friend she needs to listen to what makes him happy too. So they both listen to the birds twittering and twitting together quietly. Finally they are both happy and become the best of friends. Stuck on You - Thomas is given the special of being the Sodor Search and Rescue Engine for the day. Thomas is excited to see that Butch has a magnet attached to his crane arm. Victor tells them that the magnet comes on when the red light is switched on, but they don't listen. At the Sodor Search and Rescue Center, Harold asks them to take metal poles to Farmer McColl. Butch and Thomas can't figure out how to pick up the poles with the magnet so the poles crash into the sea! Now the red light switches itself on and Butch gets stuck to Thomas! He realizes he should have listened to Victor. Victor tells them again that the magnet is on when the red light is on. This time Thomas and Butch listen and they complete their rescue jobs effortlessly.
Wonky Whistle - Thomas is getting his whistle fixed at the Steam Works before he delivers animals to the Sodor Country Fair. He rushes out of the Steam Works before his whistle is fixed properly and it starts to make a strange sound. Thomas collects ducks, Katy the sheep dog and Farmer McColl's prize cow to take them to the fair. Thomas' whistle is so loud that all of the animals run away! Thomas arrives at the fair to find out that the animals are gone and there is no one at the fair. Once Thomas goes back to the Steam Works to get his whistle fixed, he tells everybody about the animal show. Thomas is asked to use his whistle to declare that 'the animal show is now open! ' Up, Up and Away - Thomas and Percy are given the special of delivering a giant balloon that Mr. Bubbles has blown up for his Big Balloon Show. Thomas and Percy decide to take the coast track, but the wind whips the balloon into the sky. Thomas and Percy ask Mr. Bubbles to blow up another giant balloon and they take it through a tunnel but it gets stuck! Thomas and Percy again get another giant balloon and they take a fast track and as Gordon rushes past the big balloon bounces off the flatbed and bursts. Thomas realizes that he should have taken the Woodland track. This time they arrive safely with the giant balloon and the show is a big success.
Kevin the Steamie - Kevin decides that he wants to be able to shunt like a Steamie so he can join in a game of Bish, Bash, Bosh with Thomas and Percy. The game is about shunting oil drums. While Kevin is practicing his shunting, he causes chaos in the Steam Works. An oil drum bashes into Emily's wheels and causes a scratch, another drum bangs under Spencer's buffers, and then another drum bashes into Victor and he is covered in goo. Kevin realizes that it's great being a crane and he doesn't need to learn to shunt. Kevin fixes Emily, Spencer and Victor and then invents a new game to play with Percy and Thomas called Hide and Peep! Fiery Flynn - Flynn tries to impress Devious Diesel who tells Flynn that he is not a busy fire engine. Flynn starts to put out fires that don't actually exist. He tries to save Edward when it's actually Thomas' firebox on fire. This leads to the Diesels calling him Fumbling Flynn! Flynn approaches Thomas and just as he is about to put out the fire in his firebox, his water runs out. Flynn asks the Diesels to help him. The Diesels carry buckets of water and Thomas' firebox is saved. The next time Devious Diesel teases Flynn he knows not to react and wait for a proper emergency. This time Flynn puts out a proper fire at the Quarry.
Chuffing with Pride
Race to the Rescue - Flynn is the Sodor Island Fire Engine and Victor is working on Flynn's wheels so that he can roll on the road as well as on tracks. He sets out on the road, wobbling. Rocky tells Flynn that Sir Topham Hatt's shed is on fire. Flynn goes on the tracks, even though the road is faster, because he doesn't want to be a "big red wobble on wheels". On the way to the shed, Flynn meets Butch and Bertie. They both need his help but Flynn chuffs on because he feels too silly to roll on the road. Flynn is late because he should have used the road! The crowd around the shed cheer for Flynn as he puts out the fire. He returns to help Butch and Bertie. Flynn isn't a "big red wobble on wheels"! He's the hero of the day! Bust My Buffers - One day, Gordon is too snooty to notice some freight cars in front of him and crashes into them. Gordon's buffer crashes onto the track and he loses his buffer. Den and Dart offer to help repair Gordon but he insists that Diesels cannot fix Steamies, and he huffs away without his buffer. Mavis and Salty tell Gordon that he needs a buffer. Reluctantly, Gordon chuffs back to Den and Dart and they fix him with a yellow and black diesel buffer. Gordon is very embarrassed by it. Thomas makes Gordon realize that he should be happy that he is fixed and can be a Really Useful engine! Gordon says sorry and thank you to Den and Dart. Because they are all - Diesels or Steamies - Really Useful engines!
All Together Now
Ol' Wheezy Wobbles - On Misty Island, Ol' Wheezy has stopped working. Thomas wants to help and says he can fix Ol' Wheezy. He puffs to the Dieselworks, and asks Den and Dart for help because two busy boilers are better than one. Den and Dart chuff back to Misty Island together and their drivers work on Ol' Wheezy until he is fixed! The Sounds of Sodor - Thomas is to take a Famous Composer around the Island and show him the sounds of Sodor to help inspire a new composition. Everywhere Thomas takes the composer, they are interrupted by noisy engines. This makes Thomas cross. However, unbeknownst to Thomas, the noisy engines are inspiring the Famous Composer to compose! Thomas fails to heed a warning sign and has to stop suddenly, making the composer's music blow away in the wind. Thomas realizes his error and finds a unique way to reinterpret the composer's music - by using his noisy friends to create The Sounds of Sodor!
If A Job's Worth Doing
Thomas and the Garbage Train - Thomas volunteers to take the Duchess to tea. Diesel tells Thomas that his work with Whiff will make him too stinky to take the Duchess. As Whiff and Thomas puff along, Thomas uncouples from the Garbage train and Thomas takes 'sweeter smelling' tracks. Whiff struggles with the heavy train and has to stop on the track causing Thomas crashes into Whiff. Garbage flies into the air and all over Thomas! Thomas is the stinkiest engine on Sodor! While Thomas cleans up the garbage, he gives Whiff the Special of taking the Duchess. Sodor Surprise Day - Sodor Surprise Day is a day in which people and engines surprise each other and make each other laugh. When Gordon declares Sodor Surprise Day to be silly, Thomas decides to show Gordon how much fun it can be, instead of doing his job. He surprises Gordon at the coal hopper, at a junction and then at the docks! But Thomas only succeeds in ruining the fireworks for the Surprise Day party and doesn't do his job. Thomas then concentrates on doing his job and finds a fantastic alternative to the fireworks. No one is more surprised than Gordon!
Fun on the Farm
Thomas Toots the Crows - Farmer McColl is having trouble keeping crows from eating his seed. Thomas offers to use his whistle to scare them away. Soon, Thomas finds himself puffing all over the island chasing crows. At last, a very cross Farmer McColl finds Thomas. He shows Thomas that his field is even more full of hungry crows than before! It's the one place Thomas was not scaring crows from! Thomas is very sorry. He sticks to the job and dutifully stays at his post all night long, successfully scaring crows! Muddy Matters - When James is asked to take Farmer McColl's sheep to the Sodor Farmer's fair, James is much more concerned with preserving his own cleanliness than following instructions. Due to James' vanity, the sheep escape. James realizes that if he is to get the sheep to the Fair, he must sacrifice the one thing that is most important to him. He must get dirty! James arrives at the Fair with the sheep, job done and very muddy! But he makes it to the front page photograph for being the image of a Really Useful engine!
Don't Give Up
Percy and the Calliope - Percy and Diesel are instructed to take a rusty old organ - the calliope - to be melted down. Percy is determined to save it from this terrible fate. He pitches himself into a race against time to make the organ play before Percy and Diesel reach the Smelter's Yard. Needless to say, Diesel is very unhelpful. After a number of failed and funny attempts, Percy discovers that the solution to making the calliope work is to use steam - the answer was in his funnel all along! Happy Birthday Sir! - It is Sir Topham Hatt's Birthday. He tells Thomas to take Winston, his new track vehicle, with him on his jobs. Sir Topham Hatt wants Winston to see what it's like to be a Really Useful engine. Salty and Edward tell Thomas and Winston of when a younger Fat Controller would travel from station to station on his birthday in his favorite open top carriage, sharing birthday cake with the passengers on the platform. Thomas and Winston set off on his rounds. Winston trails off and Thomas is cross. Thomas makes Winston travel in front of him. Winston does so, but rolls along very slowly - looking to left and right. Thomas bumps into the back of Winston and derails him! But Winston is excited! At last, Thomas lets Winston tell him that he has been looking for the open top carriage and he thinks he has found it.
A Friend In Need
The Monster of Brendamdocks - Percy is at Brendam Docks to pick up new table and chairs for Dowager Hatt's house. The boat is late so Percy has to wait. Fog rolls in and the story says that's when the Monster of Brendam can be seen. Percy tells the other engines about the Monster and causes chaos around the island when the engines mistake each other for the Monster! Once back at Brendam Docks, Cranky reminds Percy that there is no such thing as the Monster of Brendam. He chuffs back to help his friends. Then, together, they come back to Brendam and there in the swirling fog, they see The Monster! He's tall and creaking! It's Cranky who is the Monster of Brendam and Salty's joke! Flash Bang Wallop - A Photographer arrives on Sodor to take photographs of the engines for The Great Railways of Sodor book. Thomas is determined to be photographed more than Gordon and bursts his way into each photograph, not realizing Percy and James have become derailed. A cross Sir Topham Hatt arrives and tells Thomas about Percy and James being derailed and Thomas has to find a way to put everything right. It is late when they return to Tidmouth Sheds. Gordon boasts about how many photographs he thinks he was in. Thomas doesn't mind. He knows it was more important to help his friends. When the Photographer returns a few days later, Thomas is surprised and delighted to see a front cover photograph of his rescue mission.
Welcome Stafford - Spencer is happy because he is to show the new shunting engine Stafford round the island. Stafford is an electric engine and runs on batteries. Victor tries to tell Spencer that batteries run out, but Spencer thinks he knows all about batteries. He wants to show Stafford off to the Island and feel grand. Stafford tries to tell Spencer when his batteries are running out but Spencer doesn't listen. Spencer steams up to the Rescue Team, Bash, Dash and Ferdinand and then the Duke and Duchess of Boxford. Each time, he finds that Stafford is not behind him anymore. Stafford's battery has run out! He should have listened to Stafford. Later, when Spencer runs out of coal, it is Stafford who shunts Spencer all the way to Knapford Station! Don't Bother Victor - Mr Percival leaves Peter Sam in charge to go to a meeting with Sir Topham Hatt. Mr Percival tells Peter Sam not to bother Victor with little things. Sir Handel starts creaking and croaking, Skarloey's funnel fumes and Duncan's rods rattle. Peter Sam tries to fix them all himself, instead of bothering Victor. Then Peter Sam runs out of coal and he hasn't fixed the engines. He realizes that broken engines are not 'little things' and that he needs to tell Victor. Victor is happy to help. Everyone is fixed before Mr Percival arrives!
Just Being You
Express Coming Through - At Knapford Station, Dowager Hatt is having a welcome to Sodor party. Sir Topham Hatt asks Thomas to take the visitors on a tour of Sodor. Thomas asks the visitors to ride on the Express but it's too heavy for Thomas. He doesn't want Gordon to see that he has to drop off passengers to make the Express lighter. To avoid Gordon, he leaves the visitors to enjoy "the Sights of Sodor" at the Quarry and in a field. Dowager Hatt realizes that the important visitors are missing and Gordon is sent to collect the visitors. But a job needs doing! The balloons have to be collected from the Docks for the party. Thomas is fast. He picks them up and proves that he is Really Useful, just in a different way than Gordon. Whiff's Wish - Whiff is given the job of collecting trucks of garbage from across the island. Whiff hears Spencer being praised for his grandness. Whiff wishes that he, too, could be a grand engine, so he searches for opportunities to be grand. The tracks come to a standstill because Whiff's garbage trucks have not been collected. Worried, Whiff crashes into a stationary Percy. Seeing Percy, who is only concerned about delivering the mail on time, Whiff realizes that there is nothing grander than doing your job well. He puffs away to collect the garbage trucks, just as he should have done.
Look & Listen
The Lost Puff - Paxton persuades Thomas to wobble over a bumpy track for fun, and Thomas accidentally backs into Toby at the water tower and gets his firebox wet. When Paxton overhears Toby saying that Thomas has lost his puff, Paxton misunderstands and heads off across the Island of Sodor to look for it. Steamie Stafford - Stafford doesn't run on coal and water like the steam engines, he runs on a battery which is very quiet. So when Stafford overhears some children saying he doesn't sound like a proper engine, he becomes upset. Stafford asks Thomas and Percy to teach him how to make the same chuffing sounds they do. When he is sent to collect some lambs, his new noisy sounds make the lambs run away! Stafford soon realizes that being a quiet engine is actually Really Useful.
Fire & Water
Too Many Fire Engines - A team of railway inspectors questions whether Sir Topham Hatt needs two fire engines causing concern for Sodor's fire fighting team, Flynn and Belle. When Belle beats Flynn to two fires in a row, Flynn starts to question it himself. He tells Belle to take his place on guard at the Castle's fireworks display and sulks in his shed. But when another fire starts on the same night, Flynn races to put it out, proving Sir Topham Hatt really does need two fire engines after all. Gordon Runs Dry - When a stone bounces off his boiler, Gordon doesn't wait to be checked over and hurries on his way, only to find that he has to keep stopping to take on more water. When Gordon finally runs out of water, he realizes that his boiler was damaged by the stone and has been leaking. Soon the once proud engine is being shunted to the Steamworks to be repaired. Oh the indignity!
Just Be Yourself
Scruff's Makeover Scruff works at the Waste Dump. When Sir Topham Hatt sees how rusty and dirty Scruff looks, he insists that he goes straight to the Steamworks to be repainted. Soon the other engines are telling Scruff how smart he looks, so he decides he doesn't want to work at the dirty Waste Dump anymore. Eventually Scruff realizes that the only way to be Really Useful is to do his own job at the Waste Dump, even if it means getting dirty. Wayward Winston - Winston is Sir Topham Hatt's track inspection vehicle. One day when Sir Topham Hatt leaves his handbrake off, Winston starts to roll forward on his own and is soon racing down the tracks without a driver. Winston thinks driving on his own is exciting at first, until he realizes he can't stop!
Someone to Look Up To
Kevin's Cranky Friend - Cranky the Crane is very busy at Brendam Docks and struggles to keep on schedule. Sir Topham Hatt decides to send Kevin to help him, but Cranky doesn't want any help. Kevin is disappointed and he tries to please Cranky by working hard and picking up things Cranky has dropped. Soon there is trouble when Kevin falls off the docks into the water. But it's Cranky who rescues him and Kevin realizes that Cranky does like him after all and appreciates his help. Henry's Hero - As they are working together, Henry and Hiro both start to billow dark smoke from their funnels. Duck tells them they have taken on some bad coal. Henry is worried that the bad coal will damage his firebox if he continues working, so he heads back to his shed. Hiro wants to keep on puffing and delivers their heavy load on his own. When Henry realizes Hiro can keep on puffing with bad coal, he decides that he should be able to do that too!
Peace & Quiet
Calm Down, Caitlin - When the Vicarstown Bridge is closed for repairs, Caitlin can't get back and has to spend the night on the Island of Sodor. She is so excited that she keeps waking the other engines up. They try sending her off to pull the Mail Train and the Flying Kipper, but Caitlin then wakes everyone else up on the island. In the morning, the bridge is re-opened and Caitlin is the most tired of all. Luke's New Friend - One day, Luke finds a nervous and scared young deer at the Blue Mountain Quarry. The other engines warn Luke that the quarry is no place for an animal, but Luke remembers when he first arrived and how he was nervous and scared. He wants to help the young deer so he tries to get the other engines to work quietly. That is not an easy thing to do, and after one accident too many, the engines finally convince Luke that the best place for the deer is on the grounds of Ulfstead Castle.
The Thomas Way - When Harold the helicopter breaks down near Callan Castle, Duck and Thomas are sent to take him to the Sodor Search and Rescue for repair. Thomas wants to give Harold a tour of the island and show him the sights from an engine's perspective, but Duck insists that there are only two ways to do things: the Great Western Way and the wrong way. Thomas and Duck have to learn to work together. The Switch - When Luke is sent to Ulfstead Castle to deliver stone he meets Millie, the Earl's private narrow gauge engine. The two engines compare jobs, boasting how much they like their own work, and so the Earl agrees to let them switch jobs for the day. By the end of the day, both engines are firm friends, but agree they like their own jobs better.
Sea and Sand
Away from the Sea - When Salty, the dockside diesel, develops engine trouble he worries he will be sent away from the docks. Porter, a new steam engine, arrives to help out, but Salty becomes convinced that Porter has been sent to replace him. Salty is sent to the Dieselworks, but rushes away as soon as he is repaired, spilling oil over himself. Salty races back into the docks slipping and sliding out of control. When Porter saves Salty from causing an accident, the two engines become the best of friends. Educational Objectives: appreciating differences, making new friends, accepting help, taking responsibility. Gone Fishing - Bill and Ben, the tank engine twins, see Harvey, the crane engine, at Brendam Docks. They tease him about having a hook and ask if he is going fishing. Porter helps Harvey see the positive side of being both a crane and an engine, and encourages him to help pull some trucks. Harvey is not very confident, but when he has an accident and derails his trucks, he soon realizes just how useful being a crane engine can be. Educational Objectives: flexible thinking, offering encouragement, appreciating differences, perspective taking, making friends, recognizing and utilizing individuals' strengths and skills.
Food to Go
The Afternoon Tea Express - Stephen becomes very excited when the Earl gives him the special job of collecting the ingredients for the afternoon teas at the Castle. But Spencer teases him about being too old and slow. Stephen, however, asks Thomas and the other engines to give him a push, and he's soon speeding along. When it's Spencer's turn to give Stephen a push he goes too fast, forcing Stephen to lose control and splatter jam all over the unsuspecting guests. Stephen learns that being steady and reliable is more important than being fast. Educational Objectives: accepting differences, understanding there are consequences to one's actions, apologizing, coping with failure, resourceful thinking. The Smelly Kipper - One evening at Tidmouth sheds, James teases Percy about being scared of the dark. Henry challenges James to take the Flying Kipper that night for him. James agrees, but when he realizes that the fish from the Flying Kipper are really smelly, he tries to back out of the challenge. James convinces Henry that he didn't offer to pull the Flying Kipper--Henry must have been dreaming. James soon gets his come-uppance when he becomes the Smelly Kipper.... Phew! Take It Easy
No More Mr. Nice Engine - Hiro is one of the strongest engines on Sodor. He is also very polite and gentle, even when he's pulling the naughty Troublesome Trucks. Diesel tells Hiro that the only way to get the trucks to behave is to give them a bang and a bump, but Hiro is not convinced. So Diesel sneaks up behind Hiro and encourages the Troublesome Trucks to misbehave even more, forcing Hiro to lose his temper and cause an accident. Thomas blows the whistle on Diesel, who soon finds himself learning from Hiro how to deal with Troublesome Trucks in a more polite and gentle manner. Thomas's Shortcut - Thomas and Bertie love racing, but Thomas gets annoyed when Bertie starts winning all the time. Old Reliable Edward - Gordon and the big engines tease Edward for being old. When Gordon sees a pair of red trousers blowing by the tracks, he mistakes them for a red danger flag and stops, becoming stuck on Gordon's Hill. Edward has to give Gordon a push. When Gordon doesn't even say thank you, so Thomas and Edward decide to teach him a lesson. Not So Slow Coaches - Annie and Clarabel are always complaining to Thomas about going too fast. Thomas likes to tease them by going too fast or too slow. When Annie and Clarabel find themselves coupled to Caitlin by mistake, they get a taste of what going fast is really like, and poor Thomas gets frightened that they might be taken to the mainland forever. Flatbeds of Fear - When a delivery of pipes is unloaded at Brendam Docks, the engines start to hear scary spooky noises. Salty convinces them that they're hearing the sound of the Flatbeds of Fear. Emily insists that there must be a sensible explanation, but then she hears the sound and becomes frightened too. But soon they discover that the sound was just air blowing over the pipes! Educational Objectives: recognizing others' emotions, expressing empathy, apologizing, being a good friend. Disappearing Diesels - Paxton likes to be friends with everyone--diesels and steamies alike, but it's not easy to be friends with Diesel. Diesel scares Paxton when he makes him think that all the other diesels have disappeared. Then Diesel hides and races away from Paxton. But when Diesel runs out of fuel, Paxton offers him help; he gives Diesel a push to the fuel tank--and an experience of friendship! Toad's Adventure - Oliver is always telling his Toad about his adventures. Toad longs to have an adventure of his own. When Toad gets the chance to work with James, he is very excited. But James doesn't like pulling trucks and goes too fast. When a coupling snaps, Toad gets a bigger adventure than he expected! Duck and the Slip Coaches - Sir Topham Hatt is concerned about getting all the summer visitors to their destinations on time. Duck tells the other engines about the slip coaches used on the Great Western Railway that could be uncoupled at stations without stopping. James relays the information to Sir Topham Hatt, claiming it's his idea, but James has never used slip coaches before and soon runs into trouble. Thomas the Quarry Engine - When Thomas and Diesel are sent to collect trucks from the Ffarquhar Quarry, they argue about who should be the back engine. Diesel suggests he take the trucks with Mavis, leaving Thomas to look after the quarry until they get back. When they don't come back, Thomas gets fed up and decides to take another load of troublesome trucks on his own--and then there really is trouble! Educational Objectives: cooperation, expressing kindness, learning to be patient, telling the truth, apologizing. Duck in The Water - When Duck gets stuck on some flooded tracks, James is sent to fetch Rocky to rescue him. But James doesn't wait for Rocky to secure his crane arm, and they end up knocking down a signal before they arrive at the accident site. Without a signal to warn them, the other engines don't stop. What began as one small accident for Duck soon escalates into a much bigger one, involving several other engines! Signals Crossed - Toby is always nervous when he has to go through Knapford Junction with the big gantry signal over the track. One day Toby waits nervously for his signal to change, but it stays on red. He waits and waits, holding up other engines, but the signal doesn't change. Sir Topham Hatt is very annoyed until everybody finally realizes that the signal is broken. Educational Objectives: being helpful and kind, encouraging others, developing confidence, conquering fears, demonstrating responsibility. Thomas and the Emergency Cable - Thomas is on his branch line when a passenger pulls the emergency cable and he has to stop quickly. It turns out it's not an emergency at all--the passenger is a bird watcher who's spotted a rare bird. To make matters worse, Clarabel has a flat wheel after being dragged along with her brakes on. The next time Thomas sees the bird watcher he refuses to pick him up. But Thomas learns that that's not the right thing to do either. Marion and the Pipe - One day while repairing an embankment, Marion strikes something hard and insists it must be the mast of a Viking ship. It looks like a water pipe to Thomas, but Marion is adamant that it isn't. The next day Thomas notices flooding near the bank. Marion has to admit her mistake and help prevent an accident. Missing Gator - Percy misses his friend Gator and keep thinking about the good times they had together. Percy is sad, so the other engines advise him to keep busy to take his mind off it. Percy rushes about trying to keep busy, but he loses control of some trucks. The trucks roll into an old mine. Percy is too frightened to go in after them until he remembers what Gator taught him about being brave! Educational Objectives: being aware of others' feelings, being helpful, being a good friend.
Duncan and the Grumpy Passenger - Duncan is the grumpiest engine on the narrow gauge railway. He is always complaining about one thing or another. Then Duncan gets a very grumpy passenger, who he finds very annoying. So Duncan decides to do everything he can to make the grumpy passenger stop complaining. Duncan soon learns that you can't make everyone happy. Educational Objectives: Following directions, taking responsibility, following directions, apologizing. Spencer's V.I.P. - When Spencer brings a V.I.P. (Very Important Passenger) from the mainland, he is so determined to be on time that he doesn't notice that he's been sent down the wrong track. By the time he arrives at Knapford, he's very late! The V.I.P. refuses to travel back with Spencer. The other engines all compete to to take the V.I.P. back to the mainland, but their rushing and showing off leads to confusion and delay. Spencer ends up being given a second chance! No Steam Without Coal - Without Coal There is a coal shortage at the Clay Pits. Timothy warns Bill and Ben to be careful and use their coal sparingly. Bill and Ben don't listen, teasing each other and Timothy, and messing about--until they run out of coal! Luckily, Timothy runs on oil, so he manages to keep going, delivering clay to the docks and bringing back coal for the tank engine twins. Toad's Bright Idea - Gator is waiting to be loaded onto a ship, but the ship is delayed. When Oliver breaks down, Gator is very happy to help. Gator heads off to get Oliver's trucks and promises to bring them back before morning. But Gator's lamp keeps going out. He decides not to stop to avoid being late. Toad doesn't think it is safe and they argue. In the end, Toad's bright idea helps Gator deliver the trucks in time. Timothy and the Rainbow Trucks - Timothy and the Rainbow Trucks Bill and Ben convince Timothy to search for a truck that is blue, red, yellow, and brown. However, they are playing a joke on Timothy; the truck does not exist. When Timothy finds junkyard trucks that match the description, Bill and Ben's prank is foiled! Samson Sent For Scrap - When Scruff breaks down, Samson is given the job of collecting the track-side scrap. Marion and the Dinosaurs - Marion wakes up in the middle of the night and sees a long line of dinosaurs gliding past in the moonlight. Thinking it was a dream, she tells Thomas. The dinosaurs return and chase Marion to the castle, where she discovers that they're model dinosaurs for the Earl's new Dinosaur Park! Learning Goals: conquering fears, expressing sympathy and concern for others. Millie and the Volcano - Harvey and Samson are arranging the dinosaur models for the Earl's new Dinosaur Park. When one of the dinosaurs swings towards Millie, she becomes frightened and Samson and Harvey laugh at her. In return, Millie seeks the last laugh. Emily Saves the World - Emily is thrilled to finally be transporting an exciting load-a huge globe! When she attempts to show it off, it's knocked off her flatbed.The globe rolls haphazardly, but she manages to regain control of it just in time. Even when other engines try to help him, he fails to listen.Against the others' advice, Samson takes Gordon's Express Coaches to the quarry, instead of the trucks used for carrying stone. Who's Geoffrey? - Thomas spontaneously creates Geoffrey, an imaginary engine who he blames a small, silly accident on. When Thomas further describes Geoffrey to friends, Sir Topham Hatt wants to meet the new engine. Thomas realizes that his story may have gotten a little out of hand. The Truth About Toby - Toby is stubborn and refuses to fill up with coal when Henrietta reminds him to do so. But when he takes the trucks to the junkyard, he runs out of coal. Lost and Found
Toad and the Whale - Toad, Oliver's brake van, spots a stranded whale on the beach. The Search and Rescue Team arrives at the scene and Oliver and Toad try to assist them. When efforts to drag the whale back into the water are unsuccessful, the engines transport the sea creature by rail to Brendam Docks. The whale is carried on a flatbed and released into the water. Learning Goals: resourceful thinking, helping others, cooperation, teamwork, expressing sympathy and concern for others. Very Important Sheep - Percy damages the back of his wagon in a rush to collect sheep for an agricultural fair. Without realizing there's a hole in the wagon, Percy continues his task and, one by one, the animals escape. Thomas discovers the sheep on the tracks, picks them up, and they ride to the fair with Annie and Clarabel. Lost Property - Thomas, Annie, and Clarabel plan to impress the railway inspectors who are coming to the Island of Sodor. However, a string of problems and disruptions occur and a grumpy inspector only makes matters worse. Thomas finally impresses the inspector when he returns the gold watch that the grouchy man accidentally left on Annie's seat. Henry Spots - Trouble When Henry hears that Sir Topham Hatt's grandchildren have the chickenpox, he worries that the engines will get sick, too. His fear intensifies when he catches sight of Thomas, splattered with mud and carrying a wagon of chickens. Afterward, it appears that every engine he meets is splattered with spots. Helping Hiro - When Thomas accidentally spills his cargo on the tracks, Hiro becomes derailed. Hiro requires repair at Steamworks and Thomas ventures into the woods in attempt to find spare parts to expedite Hiro's recovery. He soon finds himself alone in the woods, immobile due to the old, broken tracks. Rocky, Percy, and Sir Topham Hatt to the rescue, Thomas is brought back to Steamworks, where he is surprised to see Hiro already fixed! Learning Goals: being a good friend, helping others, expressing sympathy and concern for others, resourceful thinking. The Beast of Sodor - Spencer is stranded on Sodor because of the snowy weather and delights in telling the other engines about meeting the abominable snowman. Henry is frightened by the story and Spencer continues to play on his fear. However, when they encounter a man covered in snow, it's Spencer who is most afraid! Thankfully, the seemingly abominable snowman turns out to be Sir Topham Hatt. Salty All At Sea - Salty loves to tell scary stories and tall tales of sea monsters, which sometimes scare the other engines. When Sir Topham Hatt lends Salty to a port on the mainland, Salty allows his imagination to get the best of him. He runs away, fearful of traveling by ship. With the help of Thomas, he faces his fear and completes the job. Learning Goals: conquering fears, being a good friend, helping others, following directions. Den and Dart - Den and Dart are best friends and teammates who are rarely separated. When Den is sent to the quarry as a replacement engine, he worries about taking on the new job without Dart. Dart has similar fears, but the dynamic duo manages to cope with the help of their new friends. Learning Goals: making new friends, accepting help, helping others, being a good friend.
Slowly Wins The Race
Slow Stephen / Two Wheels Good Slow Stephen Stephen is the oldest engine on the Island of Sodor. People love to see him, so sometimes he makes special journeys around the island. Although he's still called "The Rocket," he's much slower than the other engines, who sometimes have to slow down for him. This makes Gordon particularly grumpy. But because Stephen travels so slowly, he notices that the suspension bridge is damaged and alerts the other engines in time to avoid a disaster! Learning Goals: appreciating differences, being patient, paying attention to details, making meaningful contributions Two Wheels Good Bertie, Thomas, and Spencer get into a debate about how many wheels are best. Bertie has four wheels, Thomas has six, and Spencer is very proud of his twelve. But when Spencer breaks down while taking the Duke and Duchess to an important event at Callan Castle, Thomas must transport them instead. Thomas finds the track blocked, so Bertie takes over, but then gets a flat tire! Mr. Percival arrives on his bicycle, but the Duke and Duchess can't both ride to Castle on the bike! Luckily, Mr. Percival summons Harold, who transports them to the Castle via helicopter just in time! Learning Goals: valuing the contributions of others, teamwork, flexible thinking, problem-solving.
Reds vs Blues / Best Engine Ever Reds vs Blues On game days, Thomas is very popular because the Sodor soccer team wears blue uniforms. One day a mainland team comes to the island wearing red, and they cheer James because he is red too. The two engines compete with each other over who can bring the fans to the game faster. James is in such a hurry to beat Thomas, he doesn't wait to pick up the last load of passengers-the soccer team! Thomas, in his rush to beat James, steams right by Sir Topham Hatt, who is supposed to referee the game. Percy saves the day by transporting the team and Sir Topham Hatt to the game, and Thomas and James learn a valuable lesson about teamwork and good sportsmanship! Learning Goals: teamwork, good sportsmanship, learning from mistakes, responsibility, honesty Best Engine Ever When Emily breaks down and disrupts a race between Connor and Caitlin, Caitlin shunts Emily to the Steamworks, causing Emily to travel faster than ever before. Emily is in awe of Caitlin and becomes disheartened at her own abilities. The other engines try to cheer her up, reminding her that she too is a special engine and with unique talents. When Caitlin's brakes fail, Emily races to save her from an accident, proving to herself that she too is a Really Useful Engine. The Little Engine Who Raced Ahead / Philip to the Rescue The Little Engine Who Raced Ahead Philip, a new little diesel boxcab, arrives at Knapford full of energy and enthusiasm. When Gordon tells Philip how fast he can travel, Philip is determined to prove that he's faster, and challenges him to a race. Gordon tells him to go away, but Philip only hears "go" and races off. When Philip arrives at Brendam Docks and Gordon still hasn't overtaken him, Philip assumes he's won. Later that evening at Tidmouth Sheds, Gordon announces that he wasn't racing and reminds everyone about his speed. Philip is not disheartened-he's happy to have made new friends on Sodor. . Learning Goals: being helpful, following directions, paying attention Philip to the Rescue When Philip shows off to James about how many trucks he can pull, James decides to prove that he is the stronger engine by pulling a very long train of cars. Soon disaster strikes as James loses control of all of the cars and comes off the rails, breaking through a stone bridge. As James dangles off the bridge, Philip races to save him by sliding under him just before he falls. A grateful James apologizes for calling Philip a show off. Be Good to Your Friends
Sidney Sings / Diesel and the Ducklings Sidney Sings Sidney is a very helpful diesel engine, but he's also very forgetful. One day Sir Topham Hatt gives him a very special job of picking up Percy's new wheels. Sidney is worried that he might forget what to do, so Thomas suggests he make up a song to help him remember. Sidney takes off, happily singing a song, but when he stops to talk to Gordon, he gets distracted. Forgetting his assignment, he travels to the Waste Dump, the Animal Park, and then Knapford Station, where he rescues passengers trying to reach Brendam Docks. Although he takes a slight detour, in the end, he completes two very special jobs: he delivers Percy's wheels and takes the stranded passengers to their destination on time! Learning Goals: problem-solving, creative thinking, following directions, friendship, compassion Diesel and the Ducklings Diesel always likes to appear rough and tough in front of the other engines. But when Thomas unexpectedly finds Diesel lovingly fussing over some baby ducklings, he threatens to tell everyone that Diesel is a softie. Diesel is horrified and promises to be nice to everyone in exchange for Thomas not telling them about the ducklings. All the engines are pleasantly surprised when Diesel starts being polite and friendly, but wonder if Diesel will be able to change his ways for good. Patience and Rules
The Railcar and the Coaches / Saving Time The Railcar and the Coaches Daisy the railcar can carry passengers without pulling any coaches. So, when Thomas is sent to work in the quarry, Daisy takes on his usual responsibilities, leaving Annie and Clarabel behind. Daisy constantly reminds them she doesn't need them as long as she is working Thomas's branch line. But Daisy becomes so popular with the passengers that she needs Annie and Clarabel's help to carry them all! Upset that Daisy was so rude to them earlier, Annie and Clarabel trick her into thinking she needs to be repaired. But Annie and Clarabel end up getting left behind again, and learn that two wrongs don't make a right! Learning Goals: honesty, self-control, responsibility Saving Time Samson boasts to the other trains that he has been given a very special job taking stones from the quarry to the docks. But when he learns that Thomas has been assigned the same task, Samson tries to find another way to show everyone that he's very important. He decides to take more trucks than he should, insisting that it will save time. But with so many heavy trucks, Samson can't get over Gordon's Hill! It takes him even longer to deliver the stones, and when he asks Thomas to help him, he ends up making Thomas late too. Sir Topham Hatt is unhappy with the delay, but Samson takes responsibility, assuring him that he has learned his lesson and won't make the same mistake again. A Time for Sharing
Letters to Santa / Love Me Tender Letters to Santa It's almost Christmas, making it the last chance for children to send their letters to Santa. Percy collects the mail, but is slowed down by the snow on the rails. Harold offers to help, but Percy thinks he is just trying to prove he is better at delivering the mail. When Percy runs into a snowdrift, Harold volunteers to take the letters for him. Percy is unhappy that he had to be helped. But when Harold doesn't come back from the delivery, it's Percy who searches for Harold and helps in return. Together they experience the spirit of Christmas! Learning Goals: Kindness, forgiveness, helping others, compassion, self-awareness, friendship Love Me Tender Snow comes early to the Island of Sodor - and it's heavier than usual! Donald and Douglas are attached together with a van between their tenders and snow plows on their fronts. As they plow the snow, Donald and Douglas argue over which lines they should clear first. Frustrated, Donald suddenly pulls away, snapping a damaged coupling and moving away with Douglas's tender! Douglas is left behind in the snow - without coal or water! Once Donald realizes that Douglas is lost, he becomes determined to find his brother. Donald finds Douglas in the snow and they make up, knowing that no matter how often they argue, they will always look out for one another. Learning Goals: responsibility, perseverance, gratitude.
