Minnesota has a long history of sending National Guard units to the front line. In 2011 and 2012 a group of twenty-two Minnesotans were deployed to Zabul Province in southeastern Afghanistan. The mission of their deployment was to work with local agricultural ministries to prepare them to begin to help their constituent farmers. Located in some of the poorest, most-austere surroundings imaginable the Minnesota National Guard's Agribusiness Development Team is bridging war and hope by providing opportunities to Afghan farmers that otherwise wouldn't be available.
