Honoring Choices To Receive Special Emmy For 'Making A Difference'
Twin Cities Public Television is pleased to announce that, along with our long-term partners at the Twin Cities Medical Society, we are the recipients of the 2012 "Making A Difference" Emmy Award for "Honoring Choices Minnesota." It will be awarded in late September by the Upper Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The award honors the use of video story-telling to change individual lives.
"Honoring Choices is truly the perfect intersection of an important mission, real family need and a wonderful partnership between health care and public television," said Bill Hanley, tpt's Vice President for Public Engagement.
To date, tpt has produced five documentaries for broadcast exploring the subject of end-of-life planning. Click here to watch the documentaries. The next documentary will air October 5 at 8:30 p.m. on tpt 2 and will focus on family frictions during end-of-life decision-making.
"Honoring Choices Minnesota" uses the training, principles and methodology of Respecting Choices®, a nationally recognized model of Gundersen Lutheran Health System in La Crosse, WI.
What makes "Honoring Choices Minnesota" unique is the Minnesota-specific governance, customized forms, patient education materials and Minnesota family stories.
"It's breathtaking to win such an honor! The award is testament to an idea whose time has come and the superb creativity the tpt team demonstrated," said Kent Wilson, MD, Medical Director of Honoring Choices Minnesota.
The Twin Cities Medical Society (TCMS) is a membership organization representing over 5,000 practicing physicians, resident physicians and medical students in the seven-county metro area. TCMS exists to connect, represent and engage physicians in improving the practice of medicine, policy development and public health initiatives. Honoring Choices Minnesota has been a key project since 2008.
The 2012 Slumberland "Making A Difference" Award will be handed out at the 2012 Upper Midwest Regional Emmy® Gala on September 29.
