On March 13, 2009, hundreds of Minnesotans gathered in Mankato to discuss the future of southern Minnesota's economy. This event, organized by the Southwest Initiative Foundation and the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation, was called the Futures Summit. Its goal was to begin creating an economic strategy for southern Minnesota. The afternoon discussion keynote address and panel discussion focused on "Building a Stronger Future for Southern Minnesota."
