Scott Lloyd Anderson – Painter

Writing/Essay/Journal
Painter Scott Lloyd Anderson says that painting outdoors is “like going to Paris” as opposed to just painting from a picture of Paris. He also says that “a lot of times, it is out-and-out grueling.” Why do you think he continues to do it? Are there things in your life where the reward makes the thing worth the effort? What makes hard work worth it? What does Anderson think about other people’s (or critics’) opinions of his work? How can you tell? What would be required to make this kind of art? Besides tools and materials, what skills would you need to have?

Activity
Unlike many other outdoor painters, Anderson doesn’t always look for the beautiful sunrise or the serene landscape. He paints subjects because they are compelling. Create you own work of art that is compelling, but not traditionally beautiful.
