Open Eye Figure Theatre hosts Driveway Tour in the summertime, where neighbors can bring the show to their backyard and have neighbors come over to enjoy the show. Sometimes the shows have a larger message. What message would you want to tell your neighbors? What is the importance of community? Also, what is the most beautiful thing about this type of art? What does Sommers hope his audience will get from his art?

Michael Sommers says that his work is about animation; about giving a gesture of life to something. Choose an inanimate object such as a paintbrush, a light bulb, or a broom. Acting as a puppeteer, animate the object by giving it motion and build that motion into a personality. Create a character out of that object.
