Twin Cities PBS’s Transmission System to Undergo Maintenance

Broadcast signal will be unavailable on select days from June 25-August 29

June 3, 2022

St. Paul, MN (June 03, 2022) — The Twin Cities PBS (TPT) transmission system will be undergoing maintenance and upgrading from June 27 through late August. To replace the guy wires on the tower and to provide a safe working environment for those working on the towers, both transmitters will need to be shut down during daytime hours. When this happens, our broadcast signal for all TPT channels will be unavailable during the hours of 7:30am to 5:30pm.

Who will be Affected?

Those who receive their TPT channels through antenna, Dish, DirectTV, or select cable providers will be affected.

During these outages, we encourage you to access our TPT2, TPTKids, and TPTNOW broadcasts by streaming at tpt.org/watch-live. TPT2 can also be accessed through the PBS app.

Viewers who access TPT channels through Comcast or CenturyLink will not be impacted by these outages.

When will the Shutdowns Occur?

The tentative days scheduled for shutdown include:

June 27
July 8 and 9
July 11-16
July 18
July 20-23
July 25-30
August 1-2
August 8-11
August 18-19
August 22-29

These dates may change due to weather and other delays.

Why Now?

The guy wires are what allow the transmission towers to stand and bear the weight of the tower load. Over time, the tower moves due to environmental factors, and guy wires need to be re-tensioned. After this process has gone on over the life of the structure, the guy wires get stretched and fatigued and need to be replaced, which is where we are now.

This page will be updated as the maintenance process is underway. Please return for up-to-date information.
