Why give to TPT during #GiveatHomeMN?

May 1, 2020

If you prefer to get right down to business and make a donation to TPT as part of Minnesota’s statewide week of giving; #GiveAtHomeMN, which runs from May 1 – 8, click here to give now!

If you need a little more convincing or just want to know more, read on…

As TPT’s Digital Fundraising Manager, when I’m asked “Why donate to Public Television?” it’s easy for me to come up with one of the many well-crafted and very true talking points that my colleagues and I have developed over the years.

But this is different.

Our lives are different.

Our priorities are different.

Our hair is different (at least for those who are lucky enough to have hair!)

In the more than 20 years I’ve worked at TPT, never have I seen the value of pubic media more clearly than I do right now.

Our mission to use the power of media to serve the public good is more essential for our community now than ever before. We were built for times like these.

Right now we need non-hyperbolic, non-commercial news and information we can trust. TPT offers that with TPT Now, PBS Newshour and Almanac.

Right now we need educational resources and lesson plans for teachers and parents who are educating kids from their homes. TPT delivers that. Always has. Check it out at TPT.org/homelearning.

Right now we need media and entertainment that’s safe for our kids; we provide that with our 24/7 Kids Channel, the PBS Kids streaming app, and activities, games and more at TPT.org/kids.

Right now we need respite from the news of the day. TPT fulfills that need with engrossing dramas, energizing concerts, eye-opening documentaries, hilarious British comedies and much more. We have something for everyone.

Right now we need to unwind on our own schedule, as strange as that schedule may be at the moment. We provide that with the free PBS Video App and TPT Passport, a benefit of membership that gives you more of your favorite PBS programs and original TPT productions available on-demand.

Right now we need to feel connected to our neighbors even if we can’t spend time with them. TPT connects you to the Minnesota and Western Wisconsin community with local productions like MN Original, MN Experience, and MN Channel.

Right now we need online content that’s more useful and higher quality than the junk we’re bombarded with every day. Features like our Webby-nominated web series, Sound Field or Relish, which features local chefs, provide that. That’s not to mention our digital publishing services like Rewire, which serves young adults, and Next Avenue, which serves adults 50+.

Right now, my awe-inspiring colleagues continue to deliver all of this and more while navigating the major shift in how things need to be done while we shelter-in-place to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

None of this would be possible without our supporting members. All donations go toward fulfilling this mission every day. Please support TPT this week to help us continue providing all of these services and more that make our community a better, more informed, civic-minded place…oh, and a bit more goofy, too, if you’re a fan of British comedies like I am…

Please Give Today

Warmly,

Cindy Papenheim
Senior Manager, Digital Fundraising
