Celebrate Juneteenth with TPT

A national holiday surrounding Black joy

June 16, 2023

Juneteenth (also known as Freedom Day, Emancipation Day or Jubilee Day) marks the date of June 19, 1865, when two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation went into effect, enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas learned they were free. Juneteenth has been celebrated as a holiday by African American communities since 1866, but it was only recognized as an official federal holiday on June 17, 2021. The holiday celebrates emancipation, freedom, and the liberation of African American communities, serving as a reminder of the need to protect freedom and rights for all members of American society.

Join us in celebrating with a curated collection of content that showcases the history, culture, and experiences of the Black community.
