Thomas Schrunk - Veneer Artist

Writing/Essay/Journal
Thomas Schrunk says that to be successful as an artist, you must be curious. His artwork stems from his curiosity about the movement of light. He tells the story about how he accidentally knocked over a stack of brass plates that spread out and created an amazing pattern of gradated light. This “accident” led him to a new medium in his art.

Describe something that you did accidentally that awoke your curiosity in other things.

Activity
Thomas Schrunk likes working with lustrous materials because the result is always a surprise. Lustrous materials cause light to be bounced off in different directions. Objects that are very smooth and hard are better at reflecting light than others.

Go outside on a sunny day and list all the surfaces you can see the sun reflecting off of.
