The Suicide Commandos – Punk Rockers

Writing/Essay/Journal
Suicide Commandos artists said “We didn’t set out to be the leading edge of anything.” They just hated what was on the radio in the 1970s so they set out to create their own new sound. After hearing New York punk band The Ramones, they knew they were on to something. What are your musical influences? What type of music best expresses who you are? What type of music do you like to listen to? Is it on the radio or do you have to find it elsewhere?

Activity
The Suicide Commandos said that often times, people would wait for the band after the show to beat them up. Their punk rock music engendered that kind of response and they liked it that way. They didn’t want a neutral response; they wanted to be either loved or hated. Create your own piece of music or art that you think will engender a “love-it-or-hate-it” response in people. What elements have to be present for this kind of response to follow?
