Terry Gydesen - Photographer

Writing/Essay/Journal
Photographer Terry Gydesen explains that the difference between a photograph and a picture is that “[a picture] really says something that will stand the test of time. One hundred years from now, people will still learn something from it or be intrigued by it.” What would you want to teach or tell people one hundred years from now? What message would you put in a time capsule for the future to read? Also, What is the purpose of photography? Besides simply creating something, what is the larger message or motivation? What story would you tell using each?

Activity
For a while Gydesen had a weekly column in the newspaper where she could publish a “slice of life photograph.” Create your own weekly slice of life photographs by documenting things that go on in your school. Remember to really look at what is going on–look for images that will tell stories and stand the test of time.
