Barbara Jean: The River

Writing/Essay/Journal
Barbara Jean’s song, The River, is a lament for someone she has lost. It repeatedly states that “the road goes on without you” and “I can only see you when I look back.” Write your own song or story about a time when you felt like “your heart was ripped at the seams” by the loss of a friend, relative, pet, or opportunity.

Activity
The music video for The River shows a road that seems to never end, a cloudy blue sky and autumn leaves floating in the water. Using the writing exercise you completed above, create a photo collage of imagery that visually represents the emotions you wrote down. You can photograph and print out your own images, or cut out images from magazines.
