Asia Ward - Sculpture Artist

Writing/Essay/Journal
Asia Ward uses thin sheets of metal to create “aluminum dreamscapes.” She experiments with layers, angles, shadow and light to make pieces that she hopes the public enjoys and recognizes as landscapes. Describe how she shows scale in her sculptures.

Activity
Asia Ward initially wanted to work with paper but found that it didn’t hold enough weight. Try your hand at making a three-dimensional landscape sculpture using paper. You might not get a lot of height, but play around with layers, angles, and shadow to create your own “dreamscape.”

What challenges did you encounter? Do you think these are similar to the challenges that Asia Ward experienced? Can you think of any other mediums that might work besides paper or aluminum flashing?
