Election Eve
Tomorrow's Election Day and we'll be taking a look at some of the issues being decided, including the controversial St. Paul sales tax to help fund a new Twins stadium. Then, we'll be joined by Minnesota Secretary of State Mary Kiffmeyer for a discussion of voter turnout.

One of the most common economic complaints from seniors is that the cost of prescription medication is constantly rising. With an aging boomer generation waiting in the wings, this issue is simply not going to go away, so we've invited Kate Stahl of the Minnesota Senior Federation to talk about why prices seem to keep going up and what can be done to reverse the trend.

A significant portion of Governor Ventura's Japan trip is aimed at encouraging Japanese tourists to visit Minnesota. Mary Lahammer has filed a report on the Governor's efforts to sell Minnesota as a vacation destination during, among other things, the Timberwolves season opener in the Tokyo Dome.

We sent Mary Lahammer to Japan to cover Governor Ventura's tour of that country and, in tonight's report, she looks at how the Governor & his party are using Tokyo's advanced transportation system as a springboard for improvements in Minnesota.

The Rural Cellular Deal
Rural Cellular Corporation of Alexandria, MN has announced plans to purchase a Pennsylvania telecommunications company for $1.24 billion. The acquisition would effectively double Rural Cellular's customer base and expand their business into five additional states. Tonight, Augsburg College's Milda Hedblom will join us to talk about the implications of the deal for rural cellular customers.

Revelations about Sen Rod Grams' son have added fuel to speculations that Grams' Senatorial seat will be vulnerable next year. To an already crowded field of 5 DFL challengers is added an effort to draft Tim Penny as a candidate. Mary Lahammer brings us a report on the somewhat reluctant candidate-to-be and the people behind the draft.

No Leader of the Pack
Vice president Al Gore and Governor George W. Bush were once considered virtual shoo-ins for the Presidential nomination from their respective parties, but challengers such as Bill Bradley and Sen. John McCain have been inching ever closer and throwing predictions into chaos. Add to the mix Pat Buchanan, Steve Forbes and Governor Ventura and, some would say, all bets are off. Tonight, we'll feature a panel of political scientists including Jo Beld of St. Olaf College, the U of M's Lawrence Jacobs and Macalester College's David Schultz to talk about the shifting loyalties in the race for the presidency.

A recent vote to merge the Lutheran and Episcopalian denominations has some members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) up in arms. The leader of these dissident Lutherans, Pastor Roger Eigenfeld of St. Andrew's in Mahtomedi, will join us on the set this evening to talk about the ramifications of this controversial 'Called to Common Mission' proposal.

Recent statistics show Rochester, MN to be a town on the move, offering abundant employment and a pleasant environment. However, the local Somali community has been finding it difficult to share in the good times as they paint quite a different picture of one of America's most livable cities. Lou Harvin, as part of our ongoing series on immigrants in Minnesota, brings us a profile of this struggling community.
