Disguising shapes drawn from weaponry with mirroring and repetition, Liz Miller's colorful installations demand closer inspection.

Liz Miller’s colorful geometric installations take over a room. Clinging to the walls or ceiling and cascading onto the floor, the shapes beg to be walked through. What at first glance calls to mind kelp forests or jellyfish reveals, upon careful inspection, shapes drawn from weaponry or military regalia and disguised with mirroring and repetition. As Miller installs her latest creation for the 2011-2012 McKnight Visual Artists Fellowship Exhibition she discusses the inspiration behind the work and the materials she prefers to use for these ephemeral structures.
