Make friends, share stories, and join the conversation. Indie Lens Pop-Up is a neighborhood series that brings people together for film screenings and community-driven conversations. Featuring documentaries seen on the PBS series Independent Lens, Indie Lens Pop-Up draws local residents, leaders, and organizations together to discuss what matters most, from newsworthy topics to family and relationships.

This month we are screening The Bad Kids – a documentary following at-risk students at an alternative high school as they work through the traumas and obstacles that threaten their spirit and futures.

A panel discussion hosted by David Gillette will follow the screening.

  • James C. Burroughs II – Minnesota’s first-ever Chief Inclusion Officer responsible for leading efforts to increase the percentage of jobs held by people of color across state government, and expand economic opportunity for people with disabilities and others who are underrepresented within the state’s workforce.
  • Adrienne Diercks – Founder and Executive Director of Project Success.  Her organization serves 12,000 middle and high school students in 17 public schools in the Twin Cities, through a set of programs that occur in the classrooms and over the summer.  Students are encouraged to dream ambitiously, and assisted towards making realistic plans for their future that match those aspirations.
