English Shepherd's Pie

From show 14

The original "Shepherd's Pie" was made with lamb, which explains the unusual name. But these days the pie can be made with most any meat and vegetable combination you have on hand. Here are the basics:

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups Cooked Meat, Diced or Ground
  • 1/2 cup Cooked Onions, Diced
  • 1 Cup Gravy (or commercially prepared)
  • 1 Cup Vegetables
  • 3 Cups Mashed Potatoes
  • 1/4 Cup Shredded Cheese

Combine the meat, vegetables and gravy in a bowl and mix well. Place the mixture into an 8-inch pie plate or shallow casserole. In a separate bowl, mix the beaten egg with the mashed potatoes, then spread the potato mixture on top of the meat-vegetable mixture. Sprinkle with cheese. Bake in a 400 degree oven for 30 minutes or until heated through.

Important Note: Adult supervision and participation is required for this activity.
