Former Senator Eugene McCarthy and ex-governor Harold Stassen were once leading candidates for their party's presidential nomination. And both of them spent several decades running repeated campaigns after their time was past. McCarthy ran for president first in 1968 and again in 1976, 1988 and 1992. During his final campaign, a feisty McCarthy appeared on Almanac.
