The parents of missing St. Thomas student Dan Zamlen testified in a House committee to try to force law enforcement to act faster in the case of adults who go missing in dangerous circumstances. Dan's mother Sally Zamlen wore a St. Thomas sweatshirt saying it was 5 hours before police arrived on the scene and his cell phone died before authorities even tried to track its location. She said "they don't care he was on the phone... and his last words were 'Oh God. Oh God'."
His father Dale Zamlen said "I think it was an abduction" and he didn't fall down the bluff. Dale said his son is tougher than nails but law enforcement's "hands are tied" by this "24 hours of alone time" that the police assume with missing adults. The bill author Minority Leader Marty Seifert said "time of the essence" and his mother said "we are seriously, seriously running out of time, money can't be the reason, that's not a good enough excuse." The bill quickly passed on a unanimous voice vote. More tonight on Almanac: At the Capitol.
