House-Senate Grudge?
5/20/07 3:54 p.m.
Legislative leaders are close to a deal and the House isn't happy. Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher looked emotional, angry, annoyed with Senator Pogemiller today. Here's the video you've been asking for. In a hallway she just said to him, "you missed my point" and then walked away from him. Pogemiller yelled back to her, "Margaret, still friends?" We hear the Senate got more of what they wanted in property tax relief. The governor wanted some property tax relief and it looks like he'll get it, but neither chamber seems happy about it. House Property Tax Chair Paul Marquart said "We're trying to work with limited dollars which makes it difficult." Right after that Senate Tax Chair Tom Bakk was crowned, literally, as king of the Iron Range delegation. Lawmakers brought a huge crown on a pillow in the tax conference committee and put it on his head. I later asked him again if there was unrest in his caucus and questioned if Senator Pogemiller's leadership was in jeopardy. He said no, but then went on to say: "Are Senators disappointed they're not getting more property tax relief? Yes. Are Senators disappointed they aren't getting more money invested in schools? Yes." That may say it all. It doesn't sound like there's going to be much to brag about when, and if, this session ends Monday.
