Meet Award-Winning POV Director At Walker Art Center
Stand guard with Martin, who watches over the extravagant mausoleums of notorious Mexican drug lords and meet the filmmaker behind this documentary.
From dusk to dawn, the film El Velador accompanies Martin, who watches over the labyrinth of the cemetery that reminds us of the turmoil of a drug war that has claimed more than 50,000 lives.
Although Natalia Almada's gentle documentary focuses on the more peaceful moments of the cemetery's narrative, the undercurrent of violence is omnipresent.
Almada will speak about El Velador and her other films at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis on September 27 and 28 for the Filmmakers in Conversation series. Click here for more information on her visit.
Almada first visited the Walker in 2010 for the area premiere of El General, for which she received a Sundance Documentary Directing Award. El Velador premiered at New Directors/New Films and the Cannes' Directors' Fortnight. The director will be present at the Walker Cinema to introduce her film and take questions from the audience.
El Velador receives its national broadcast premiere as part of POV on tpt 2 on September 30 at 11 p.m.
