Twin Cities Public Television Announces New Board Members
Saint Paul, Minn. August 26, 2013 – Twin Cities Public Television (tpt) has announced three new Board of Trustees members – including superintendents Bernadeia Johnson and Valeria Silva from the Minneapolis and St. Paul public schools respectively, and Robert Kyle McCrea, founding partner and former CEO of Colour Graphics Corporation and Colorado Colour Graphics.
“TPT is committed to delivering the very best that public media has to offer and to being an invaluable resource in the Twin Cities and Minnesota community. The tpt board is a very important tool in accomplishing that,” says tpt President and CEO Jim Pagliarini. “Our board members have provided incredible insight and leadership over the years, and we are honored to announce that another wonderful group of Twin Cities leaders will help us guide the future of public television in Minnesota in 2013 and beyond. In particular, we look forward to the new leadership of superintendents Johnson and Silva and Mr. McCrea.”
Bernadeia Johnson has served as superintendent of the Minneapolis Public Schools since 2010. Prior to her current role, Dr. Johnson was the deputy superintendent for the Minneapolis Public Schools and also the deputy superintendent of the Memphis City Schools. Dr. Johnson has also served as both a principal and assistant principal in the Minnesota public school system and has her doctorate in education policy and administration from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Johnson was honored in 2012 with the Minnesota School Public Relations Association (MinnSPRA) District Leadership for Excellence in Communications Award, presented annually to one superintendent in Minnesota for outstanding leadership in school public relations and communications.
Valeria Silva has been the superintendent of the St. Paul Public Schools since 2009. Ms. Silva has 25 years of experience as an educator and administrator both in SPPS (Chief Academic Officer; Director of English Language Learner Programs; Principal at Adams Spanish Immersion School: Assistant Principal at Dayton's Bluff Elementary; and Coordinator of Spanish Immersion Program/Curriculum) and with the Minnesota Department of Education. She is the only Latina superintendent of a large urban school district in the United States, and recently graduated from the prestigious Broad Superintendents Academy.
Mr. McCrea has been acting as a volunteer for an impressive litany of non-profits since his retirement in 2003 – including: former board member of International Prepress Association and member of the Advisory Board of Crossfield/Dupont UK; former board member and Chair of the United Theological Seminary and co-chair of two capital campaigns, and a current campaign; former board member of the Episcopal House of Prayer at St. John’s University; former board member and Chair of Minnesota International Center and a current capital campaign, continuing as Honorary Director, former member of International Advisory Board of Carlson Schools and many more.
