Twin Cities Area Council of Camera Clubs Announces the Young Photographers Photo Competition

Contest in collaboration with tpt and the Capture Minnesota photo contest

Saint Paul, Minn. February 18, 2013 – The Twin Cities Area Council of Camera Clubs (TCACCC) has launched a photo competition exclusively for young photographers in conjunction with the popular Twin Cities Public Television’s (tpt) Capture Minnesota online photo contest.   Since the project launched on February 1, over 600 photos have been submitted illustrating the wide range of talent in our state.

“We wanted to create a platform for young photographers to submit and receive feedback on their photos as a way to support them in their pursuit of the art form,” says John Anderson, TCACCC coordinator of the project.  “The well-established Capture Minnesota contest, with its social media structure, is a natural fit for young people used to using Facebook. “

Youth between the ages of 13-18 are invited to submit photos to the competition.  Once uploaded, the photos are “liked,” commented on and judged by other photographers on the Capture Minnesota site and by TCACCC judges. Two winners, selected each month from each Challenge (one selected by popular vote and the other by the Camera Council judges) for a total of four winners each month, will receive a $20 gift card from West Photo.   A Grand Prize Winner will be selected at the competition’s end and be presented with a Canon EOS 60D 18 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera and a 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS UD Standard Zoom Lens (donated by West Photo).  The competition runs through May 2013.

TPT’s Vice President of Interactive Media, John Daenzer says of the collaboration, “We are thrilled to be working with all of our sponsors to help build this new photo sharing web site and publish such beautiful books. And we are especially happy to join with the TCACCC to expand such a special program to talented young photographers.”

Photos can be submitted to the Capture Minnesota website: http://www.captureminnesota.com.  For more information about the competition and the TCACCC, visit: http://www.cameracouncil.org/507453/youth-photography-contest/

The Twin Cities Area Council of Camera Clubs and its twenty affiliated clubs promote continuing education and fellowship for those interested in all aspects of photography.  Member clubs offer a diverse range of programs, field trips, competitions and social interaction.
