Quilting Arts promises a new look for quilting television, with something for everyone who loves quilting. The show combines basic traditional quilt techniques every quilter needs to know with contemporary art designs and techniques. Host Patricia (Pokey) Bolton, invites quilt artists each week into her studio to share their expertise. She opens each show with a short feature relating to the show's theme. Tech savvy quilters will love the weekly digital segments. Also featured on each show is Sue Hausmann in a machine quilting segment.

Just because a project is small doesn't mean you can't learn a new technique. Learn several fabric manipulation techniques while crafting Julie Creus' colorful Buttercup Brooch. Author Linda Hahn's new book takes the New York Beauty block to new heights; she demonstrates an easy way to make this seemingly complicated block. Artist Sue Reno shares some of her work, which includes cyanotype, collagraph, and heliographic printing. She also demonstrates the amazing echo quilting that is a hallmark of her work.

We combine artist and quilter with amazing results. Appearing first is Ana Buzzalino. She starts out with simple landscapes created with stitch and paint. You'll learn how to cut and sew shallow curves without marking or pinning and then move on to the design, quilting and finally, painting of your landscape. Next is Cheryl Sleboda and simple cartooning for quilters. This is a demonstration on how to draw a cartoon face - even if you have no drawing skills, and then how to turn the fusible pieces into a quilt. We close with Judy Coates Perez and how to paint gradations on fabric with textile paints.

Curious about felting? Two guests share different approaches to this fun surface design process. Sue Reno's river-themed quilts feature felted layers using fabric, silk scraps and roving to add movement to her work. Rebekah Meier calls her felting technique "Mixed Media Freestyle Needle-Felting." She makes a sandwich of a felt base; paper towels (or napkins) trapped between silk, then needle-felts, and does free-motion stitching and handwork.
