Native Report is an entertaining, informative magazine style series that celebrates Native American culture and heritage, listens to tribal elders, and talks to some of the most powerful and influential leaders of Indian Country today. The series is attractive to both a general and tribal audience, promoting understanding between cultures, tribes and reservations...offering a venue for the stories of challenge and success coming from Minnesota's tribal communities... and educating public television viewers about the culture and traditions of native citizens. Native Report is hosted by Stacey Thunder, an enrolled member of the Red Lake Nation, and co-hosted by Tadd Johnson who is an enrolled member of the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa. The Native Report season consists of fifteen episodes. Another fifteen episodes are planned next year which will include stories from Minnesota and Wisconsin native communities.

Airs Monday May 4th
On the season ten premiere of Native Report with Stacey Thunder sixth generation master quilt-maker Gwen Westerman talks about culture and history as she constructs a beautiful Star Quilt. The author of Mni Sota Makoce: The Land of the Dakota talks to co-host Tadd Johnson about the sweeping story of the Dakota people and their strong connections to their traditional homelands prior to exile in the 1860's. And we celebrate 10 years on public television stations with a look back at our very first story about the Red Lake Nation's Independence Day Pow Wow from Native Report's first episode.

Airs Monday May 11th
Today on Native Report small fragments reveal much about a time long passed at the Indian College at Colonial Harvard. Come with us as we visit the Peabody Museum at Harvard University. Then meet Robert Anderson, nationally known for his expertise in Native American legal issues and Visiting Professor at Harvard Law School. Then in celebration of our tenth year on the air a look back at a story about how tribes go through the federal recognition process. We also hear from our Elders and something new about Indian Country on this edition of Native Report.

On this Native Report we visit an engaging on-campus summer youth program at the University Wisconsin Eau Claire Campus called Strengthening Our Nations, it's designed to provide pivotal experiences for college bound youth. The Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe resolved to establish their own tribal college in 1990 and now offer a fully accredited educational service with traditional cultural philosophy and values of the Anishinaabeg. And to celebrate our 10th season on the air we'll revisit the Cobell litigation which involved billions of dollars and affected hundreds of thousands of individuals across Indian Country.

On this edition of Native Report the dream like works of artist Rabbett Before Horses Strickland have been compared to those Renaissance masters, we learn about his inspiration and his life. The murder of legendary Ojibwe Chief Joe White is the subject of a gripping historical study that encapsulates the decades-long struggle of an Ojibwe community to resist removal, we interview the author. And to celebrate our 10th season on public television stations we delve into the Native Report archive for a tribute to the late Richard Milanovich, Chairman of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians.

Today on Native Report with Stacey Thunder we honor those who proudly serve in the military with a visit to a Veteran's Powwow and a memorial dedication on the beautiful Lac Courte Oreilles Reservation. We learn about the traditional harvesting of wild rice with the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. And as we honor our 10th season on public airwaves, we go to the archives to look at the night sky through Ojibwe eyes as we learn about Native astronomy. We'll also hear from our Elders and learn something new about Indian Country on this edition of Native Report.

On this Native Report co-host Tadd Johnson takes us on a self-guided tour of the Mashentucket Pequot Museum & Research Center which is billed as the largest museum of its kind in the world. Then we learn about prominent sachems and chiefs and their place in Mohegan history we tour the sculpture garden of the Mohegan Nation Government and Community Center. And as we look back at ten years of Native Report we pay tribute to Navajo Code Talker Chester Nez. We also hear from our Elders and learn something new about Indian Country today on Native Report.

On this edition of Native Report we feature the story of "Little Shadow Catcher" David Barry a 19th Century photographer best known for his frontier photography including many iconic Native American portraits from that era. Then we head into the kitchen to learn the secrets behind perfecting frybread, a popular food often enjoyed at powwows. And then as we continue the celebration of Native Report's 10th season on the air we go into the archives for a popular segment on Lake Superior's Spirit Little Cedar Tree.
